History:
Elegant Royal Crown Derby Olde Avesbury pattern dates back to 1932 when it was housed in the Royal Crown Derby Archives. The Aves pattern originated from an embroidery pattern by painter, Albert Gregory, and is adorned with dramatic birds of paradise and peacocks with elegant trailing feathers. Royal Crown Derby Olde Avesbury is embellished in 22 carat gold for an elegance that never dates.
Without the lid the dish measures just over 2.5 inches in height by 5.5 inches. across.
With the lid on, the height measures approximately 3.75 inches.
Nice and clean item
No cracks, chips, crazing or repairs.
I have detected a few flaws.
I detect a brown spot on the interior of the bowl. This spot is NOT what you would call a dark spot that you typically would find on older china. It looks to me to be paint, possibly a blemish by the manufacturer? It measures approximately 1/4 inch around.
Also, on one of the scalloped areas on the top edge opening is a missing amount of gold along the trim. It measures just under a half inch in length.
This sugar bowl has kept its integrity for many years and I do not feel that the flaws mentioned above compromise the appearance of the sugar bowl.
